Now that's an overflow, which was surprisingly loud for such a wee thing.

Real Niagara doesn't have the mechanism, of course, but again you have found an interesting view.

Not a visible one. There is however a huge amount of water diverted to hydroelectric generation. I can't find numbers in % right now but I recall being told in 2015 that 1/2 of the water potentially able to flow over the falls was diverted during the day and 3/4 at night. But in reading about it more it appears that there are fixed numbers that must flow for on and off peak times.

Yes, when we lived in western Massachusetts, the monthly bill issued by our {village-owned} electricity utility specified the sources of power, because their rates depended on how much power came from where. IIRC, around 10% of our power was attributed to Niagara.

But I understood that had to "turn it off" while they renew/repaired the American Falls in 1969...

ANd I was expecting that little curb you posted years ago with a water flow over it. How many "little Niagara's" have you posted?

They literally built a temporary cofferdam to move the extra water all over the Canadian portion. They found only 2 skeletons which was surprising. There are discussions about drying them again to replace the aging stone bridges to goat island.

Oh one or two, but still better than the original in 1969...

But Niagara has become synonymous with waterfalls, as Hoover is to vacuums.
