Wow, that brings back memories. I was sailing with a friend in Croatia in the 90's, after the civil war. We were also in Trogir. The country was war torn and battered at the time, with shot-up cars by the road sides. Some tourist resorts were abandoned and squatted by refugees.

Croatia has certainly bounced back, by the looks of it.

It was homeland war, (the Greater-Serbian aggression).
