I actually got a hummingbird with a macro lens
Lens: Tamron 90mm Camera: K3 Photo Location: Joliet, IL
Posted By: Nerdlinger, 09-22-2015, 09:17 AM

I was taking macro flower pics and a lady commented "there is a hummingbird by your head"; I proceeded to put the camera back into AF.S and my U1 settings (turning off MF) and prayed that I could follow one of these rockets and this slow macro lens. I got one! What do you think?

These things are fast and you did a good job reacting to the situation and capturing the moment! The picture is, however, not crisp. You think going into Autofocus C (continuous) would've helped?

Aw hell no maybe if I had the 20-40 limited on...but I was shooting flowers and these things dart like mofo's. I do no post editing so I'm sure if I was a Photoshopper I could have used some form of hocus pocus. For better or worse what I shoot is what it is

Yeah so good job in capturing the perfevt moment. But using Auto focus Continous mode is a good way to make sure your camera gets perfect focus on a moving subject, as it moves while the picture is being taken. Nonetheless, good shot

I think it looks great! DOF is excellent. I read the comments above but to my eyes it looks pretty sharp. Amazing result considering no PP!

Thanks for the encouraging words...the DOF is good because I was shooting through two branches into a tiny hole that that little zipper was in...

That's a good shot - trying to track in those situations is challenging at best. It's quite another thing than setting up near the feeder.

Challenging? Ha...I found it more towards the impossible zone. They'd stop at a flower for a millisecond and FLASH gone...

And the young males who perch next to you while out doing yard work KNOW you don't have a camera...

It may not be a technically perfect photograph but it's a perfect capture of a unique moment. Awesome.
Also, looks like a bit could be done to 'bring it out' in PP.
