New Glass 28 mm fixed
Posted By: devs66, 06-22-2008, 10:48 AM

I just picked up a lens for $20.00 - it is a 28 mm prime, says MC IMAGE AUTO and is a 52mm filter size, f8 - f22. Also is a 1/4 macro. Very sharp and oddly a very wide (long) DOF. All are taken at F8 - JPEG - in Manual using the green button. First two are resized, last is a crop. I am still trying to perfect the focus

It is my first M42 and I really liked the IQ so far - I just need to get better with it.

Hey does this make a member of the M club?

Hey Devs66,

Back in the "film" days (sounds funny to say that) one of my favorite lenses was my 28mm. It seems to offer contrast like no other. I also like the variety it offered at different angle s, and with different subject to lens distances. It looks like you got a steal for $20. Most aperture ranges seem to be 2.8 - 22 (is your lens actually f8-22 ??) If so I have never seen that before. Love the first shot.

Opps - Missed the "2." in front of that 8 - it is f2.8 - 22. These shots are all at f8

No. The M club is SMC Pentax-M lenses, which are K mount. But what we might do is start the "Under $25.00 M42 Club" or some such. Only really low priced lenses.

Don't have anything nice like your shots, but I got a Vivitar M42 35mm, f2.8 for $14.00 yesterday. Took a shot up the street just to make sure it's working.

if you're hooked on M42 lenses, check out this site M42 is a site dedicated to M42 adaptator lenses. You will find here tests, from argentic to numeric cameras and oldest to newest M42 lenses. Members described their work and the used lens. Oldies, but goldies!

K100D,

Thanks for the link, loads of cool looking glass to go hunting!

I would say I am close to hooked, I have left the 28mm on for a while now, it really feels like the film days going all manual. Forces me to compose a shot and think - not just snap snap snap and hope for a good one.
