First spider of the season
Posted By: old4570, 10-05-2015, 03:50 AM

Red back was in a tight spot , shot was 1:1 ..
So (?)

First Orb weaver of the season ..
Not a good shot , but it was windy as all heck out there , guess Im lucky to get this (?)
Full 1:1 , it is rather small , so hopefully several months of photo ops for this one .

I was out there with the flash light , and all these tiny insects kept buzzing around and getting caught in the web , I guess ( she ) the spider got a decent feed for my presence .

I think Australia is in for a long hot spider filled summer this season ( insect season )

Winter hibernation , not many insects about !
You can go outside and see nothing after 30 minutes of looking . But once spring and the warmer weather comes in , there tends to be an explosion of activity .

The Red Back looks almost identical to our Black Widow here in the US. The Black Widow is our most venomous spider and one I would not get too close to. It is the beginning of fall here and as it is really starting to cool down. We are seeing and hearing fewer and fewer insects and spiders aside from those that will try to invade our homes and hibernate for the upcoming winter months.

Im not sure of the lifespan of spiders here ?
Usually they lay eggs ( End of summer ) , which then hatch around spring time ( orb weavers anyway )
Redbacks , more of a year round spider ..
But you see a lot more of them come summer , especially warm evenings - Great time to make the rounds with a powerful flash light and a can of bug spray ...
This redback has been earmarked for death ! ( Im sorry to say )
There are lots of spiders I will tolerate , and then there are the ones I will exterminate .. White tails and Redbacks come to mind as well the odd poorly placed Wolf spider ...

Ahh right, other hemisphere lol
I'm getting all the equipment just in time to not use it. The weather and temperatures have changed much earlier than usual this year...
