A Hike Through the Glens with Limiteds Only (PART 1)
Posted By: SCGushue, 06-22-2008, 06:44 PM

I usually only take the 31 and some zooms when doing scenic work. But I decide to take the DA21, FA31, DA35 Macro, DA 40, FA 43 and 77 this time. Used all but the 43 this time.

Image #1 is a 3 image pano with the Da 21 assembled in PTGui 7.3.

Image #2 is a young wood toad on sphagnum and heptatic shot with DA 35 Macro.

Image #3 is a 15' waterfall using the DA35.

Image #4 is done with a DA 21. It looks soft on the preview but it is not. The compression looks like this shot is being hurt the most on posting.

Stephen

For some reason, waterfall shots don't really move me, but these are really good. I actually stared at #3 for while.....lots to take in there. The frog shot is incredible. DOF control in that shot is absolutely perfect! Looks like PPG material to me...

Extraordinary work. I fear I may have to buy the DA 35 Macro at some point, the shots from it look astounding.

Thanks Scott and the toad was truly a cooperative model.

Thanks Max (I keep hearing 99 say that...oh well). I try to put more into the images than just a "capture". I like looking for flow patterns, mosses and rocks that have character. I pass your compliments on to the toad.

The 35 Macro is a really wonderful lens. This was my first outting with it. Not really good for closeup bug work or anything and if you need to use the onboard flash you cannot get it to 1:1.

Yes, I do use filters. The most popular combination of filters that I used on this day was a Hoya Circular Polarizer Pro and a Hoya NDX8 neutral density filter. On occasion I use the NDX400 Hoya (9 stops)

Beautiful photos. What glen is that? I was at Watkins Glen in NY last fall. So many great places to walk/hike and take pictures.
