Small Kangaroo
Camera: K-5 IIs
Posted By: Bruce Clark, 10-12-2015, 06:34 PM

Driving along an open road on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, we rounded a bend, to see this young kangaroo calmly sitting in the middle of the road. Stopping hurriedly I managed to get a shot off before I had to shoo him off the road as we could hear oncoming traffic. I am not certain if this is a young Eastern Grey or some species of wallaby. Either way a beneficial encounter for us both.

Safely off the side of the road

and a parting glimpse

I like the last couple of shots most.

99.9% sure it's not an Eastern Grey. Might be a Tammar wallaby.

Nice catch! How tall was he? Looks small judging by the surface of the road.
We drove around Australia for two weeks and never saw a single kangaroo.

Thanks, It was quite small. Estimate 3-4 feet from nose to tail and about a foot high. in prone position. We never saw it up on its back legs. Next time you are over this way,I can help you find some.

I am saving that category for the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby. which I will post shortly.

Thank you. The last is best in my humble opinion. I think you might be right. I was leaning that way but my reference described them as about rabbit sized. This one was quite bigger than that but it has all the right markings So I shall accept your suggestion.
