Mountain Glow
Lens: Pentax D-FA Macro 100 mm Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Mono Lake ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/160s Aperture: F8

An alpenglow effect, looking across Mono Lake to the north a few weeks ago. I normally use the 100 mm for macros but wondered what it would look like here, and I think it did a pretty good job. One of my favorite lenses.

You should look at using your telephotos for landscapes more often. Particularly if you take advantage of the distance compression they create and look for the details within a scene. I like the 50mm and longer lengths for this and even have some images captured with the DA* 300mm.

I agree completely. I wish in fact that I had shot this at about 200 mm, focusing mostly on the snow covered peak at center. Thanks for your input!

I'd prefer a mineral water, thanks GeoJerry.

Thanks Jer! Mono Lake is a pretty unusual place, with some strange landforms. Well worth a visit!
