Party!
Posted By: Igilligan, 06-23-2008, 11:48 PM

We had a 96th birthday in the family on Sunday and I took my tamron 28-75 along. I had decided that I was not going to even take the camera out of the car because at every family event I am always sticking camera in everyones faces and I wanted to just 'be there' this time.... but it is habit to put the camera bag in the car.

Our Dear 'PAPA' was turning 96 years old. And we had our newest addition to the family, 14 weeks young who was making his first appearence at the party too. So, of course I had to go out to the car and get the camera. And I am so glad I did.

Excellent photos of the family -- wow! If I could get nice natural poses and great light like this I'd be very happy.

Wonderful collection of the family, Gus. The only thing I would like to have seen would be your 'newest' sitting with PAPA

You can tell you're all from the same family

I'm so glad you went back to the car and got the camera. What wonderful shots! You do a terrific job. Do you want to go with me to WA in July to shoot some of my grandson? I'm trying to get 1/2 as good at doing this as you do.

I do have a couple of questions about 2 of your shots if you don't mind. In looking at the exif data (#3), tag 8822 shows "aperture exposure", and tag A402 shows "manual exposure". I don't know much about the exif data, but how can they be opposite?

Holy CR*P..... 96..... you wouldn't guess it from looking at him.

I can't even imagine being on this earth that long.

Congrats to him!

D.

P.S. Your picture cripsness and clarity are inspiring.

Gus,

Great party with lots of wonderful portraits. The lens is sharp. It is a shame that I don't use the lens as often as it is a bit on the heavy side for me as a walk around. But for portraits, it is my go to lens for sure. And your photos show me just that. I love all the pictures, I especially love the b&w in #2 and that with your younger daughter. Very lovely shots with great sharpness in those shots with the baby blue eyes.

I always like your portraits, and you capture well in lighting and emotions. You always done well in portraits, be it in b&w and low light.

Thanks,
Hin

I really want to thank everyone...

Thank you all for the kind comments and for taking the time to post.

I am usually not one for posting this many family pics, as I know they do not necessarily mean anything to anyone else. But I was really pleased with how they turned out. Definately my best family photo event by a long shot. Either I am getting better or I stumbled on some great light and very happy people .....

I also had been reading the other forum and there were two or three threads with people saying they had got bad copies of this lens. I am so glad those threads were not around when I decided on this lens, because I would have never ordered it, and honestly this one fits my style of shooting so well.

To cardinal 43, the only guess I have about your question is that I was shooting in the A mode (aperture priority) and I had set a exp comp of +.3, so that maybe why it says Manual exp... I am not too up on some of the EXIF lingo.

Again thanks to all for the kindness and to those who were involved early on, telling me to get this lens... I owe you big time. Now on to the DA 50-135 or Tammy 70-200 2.8
