Looking eastwards towards the Sierra Nevada, taken from US395 at Conway Summit, just north of Lee Vining, California. The peaks you see in the distance are located in Yosemite National Park's high country.

Love it. Long ago in a mountain range far away, I hiked all of those peaks, and many other watershed trails in Yosemite. Now that is beyond my physical capability but your photo brought back the 1970's to me. The meadows of gold beneath granite walls topped with snow filled bowls even in September haunt my mind. Thanks.

Thanks Charlie! US395 runs through a big sweeping valley here and this location is not well known to many people, even Californians.

Thanks Dave, it's a great spot but I wish I had waited a week or two before coming up here.

Thanks pentaxpixie. This was early October, and we're all hopeful that this an early indication of a much needed heavy snowpack this year!

Well waterfall, you got a big smile out of me on this one. I'm glad the photo brought back some good memories for you. I know I enjoy it when I see a photo of a far off place I remember from long ago days. Yosemite and surrounding locale is certainly an unforgettable sight to all who pass through. Thanks very much for your comment!

That is nice country, and a great image.. thanks for posting. When I'm in a spot like that my big question is "I wonder how long it would take to walk to those mountains."

I drove right by there 3 weeks ago on the way back from Lake Tahoe i drove by during sunrise and there were 15 photogs lined up by the side of the road, tripods and all.

The 395 stretch between Bishop and the Carson Valley is magical to me

Thanks Norm.... and the answer to your question is, "probably a lot farther than it looks!"

Thanks very much! I agree with your last sentence, but haven't been on tha stretch for several years now. And don't forget, Bodie is just around the corner! A great area, relatively unvisited compared to places like Yosemite.
