A musk Lorikeet feeding on Eucalyptus flowers. Heavily cropped, I do need a 50-500mm Sigma.

A super capture. Are these birds also referred to as "KEA?"

Job well done. Thanks,

Tonytee

Thank you. What I know as a Kea is a large parrot from New Zealand's South Island

Nice shot. We have Musk Lorikeets here but they are usually way up high. I don't think you lost too much in the cropping. However (and I am no expert) the plane of focus seems to be on the bunch of leaves obscuring the tail rather than the bird. I think that is one of the biggest problems when using shorter focal lengths and cropping - it is a bit harder to control the focus when the target surrounds are a bit cluttered. A longer focal length would make that easier. But rather than reach for a 50-500, have you given any thought to Sigma's matched 2x teleconverter? That would give you 400/5.6. Those who use them say that IQ loss is minimal.
