Those are the headlamps and tail lights of trains passing during the half-minute exposures.

Never realized that trains had taillights before. I like how everything vanishes into the distance.

These are passenger trains; our freight trains used to have a battery-powered flasher, but these days they seem to get away with just a retroreflector...

interesting... i wonder what it would look like if the two shots were combined, to show both sets of lights in one pic.

it looks like the centering is off between the two, not sure how feasible it would be.

The first sense I get from the photos is of breathing cold air, love the poles and lines, lights and depth.
