K-3, A-400 ƒ5.6, ISO 500 , AV mode.

We finally got a little sun, so I spent some time in the blind, joined by a flock of Grosbeaks

Mr. Evening Grossbeak

Mrs. Evening Grosbeak, it's the first time this year I've caught a female at the feeder.

There were at least 12 Grosbeaks trying to squeeze into the small bird feeder.

Meanwhile, a Blue Jay can't decide if he's a corn man or peanut man.

What the heck, stuff it all in.

And a Squirrel is lost in thought, as well

OK then, corn it is.

Thanks.... I've been thinking about what a rare day it was for light.... you could just see a bright spot in the clouds, so, very soft very diffuse light. but still good enough to give me /100s shutter speed at ƒ5.6. That's pretty rare, it must have been my lucky day.

Nice shots, great detail. I think you need a bigger bird feeder. If you build it they will come!

The feeder in the first image is 15 feet long, by 6 inches wide and gets a good sized pitcher full of food every day. I'm thinking of a new feeder, 3 times the size of the one they were trying to crowd into, but it is supposed to be for the smaller birds. I'm still undecided. The small bird feeder gets chopped nuts, the bigger feed, whole nuts. Even if I put in a bigger feeder to spread them out, I'm not thinking of providing more of the extremely high quality food I put in it. Feed costs to start the winter already ran over $90. We'll see how long it lasts.

I also have to figure a way to make it more photogenic. This doesn't actually appeal to me as a location for bird images. I have to figure out how to do it with more natural looking material. Any suggestions are welcome.

You could paint it to make a total contrast. You could also gather pieces of bark, twigs, moss and with a weather proof glue attach the pieces so it blends more. You could cover the roof with old metal. Or you could go all out and build a multi level condominium complex

I'm thinking of a design made out of a 2 foot section of log. But I have to get my shed done so I have a place to sharpen my chain saw.

What is wrong with the kitchen table? I sharpen my saws there. Good light, the bar oil is soft, cabinet clamps (Jorgensons) work well to fix the bar to the oak table. I do use a small painters drop cloth beneath the saw. Or one can hold out for a heated workshop!
