I have not been able to identify this "fly"? It is about 3/16 of an inch long and does not stay still for long as most flies are prone to do. Does anyone have any ideas what this actually is?

My best guess would be a yellow fly/deer fly, but no telling what y'all Floridians have flitting amongst all the python's and boa constrictors you have lurking about.

Most likely a Tephritidae (true fruit fly) or maybe Ulidiidae - Picture-winged Flies. Check Bugguide.net and you may be able to further identify it

You're welcome. Keep on shooting those little creatures and when you get stuck on an identification do make use of Bugguide.net - many experts watch it regularly and provide identifications. Of course you should give identification a shot yourself first if only to become more familiar with your subjects.
