Great Sand Dunes NP
Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Colorado
Posted By: slowpez, 12-10-2015, 07:39 AM

This was such a great place to photograph. Surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo mountains, sand held in place by a spring-fed creek that usually dries up in the summer months, the dunes are beautifully sculpted. This is Colorado high desert. This summer the creek remained wet which was quite unusual. The mountains got their name from the brilliant red that is apparent at sunset.

Thank you all for your kind comments. We did have a great trip. Our national parks are our favorite places to visit and we do love the west and its red rocks and deserts.

You must go. These are the only really well sculpted dunes I have ever seen in the US.

Wow !! Saw the sign to that but no time.
These shots are almost enough to make me want to come back. Great work.

Ooops! My mistake, got this mixed up with something else. Had a brief visit here, but this puts a very different light on it. Very impressive.
