Monument Valley 1
Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Arizona - Utah

Owned and operated by the Navajo Nation and made recognizable by John Ford and John Wayne, it is also one of the west's most photographed places. The road down into the valley is horrendous and will test the suspension of your vehicle. Riding down with a Navajo guide is not any more pleasant. Was it worth it - oh yes. Would I do it again - oh yes.

Very nice! How much did the Indian charge to be in the photo?

Susan, amazing shots! #1 is my favorite; really brings back all the John Ford westerns. Just think you were right where John Wayne had been many times!

#3 is my 2nd favorite; it sets a mood of a time long ago.

Thanks for sharing such beauty with us!

That Indian story is so funny. We were quite a bit away when I saw the outline against the sky so I grabbed the camera and fired off some shots only to realize when we got to the place where he was it was a horse for hire that you could sit on and have your picture taken. I felt pretty stupid but I still like how the photo turned out.

Thanks. I found myself having to take more HDRs than I usually would because it was so cloudy and/or rainy. Everything was so dark that HDR was only way I could find to balance things out.

There's me thinking that it was a cardboard cut out horse, just for silhouette purposes.

Beautiful shots again, Susan. I had a look at your PPG also. That really made me feel inadequate!

Wow, the sky in the second to the last photo looks like it was painted on - beautiful.

Too much rain that evening for cardboard cutouts. Believe me when I say we got soaked.

Those are western skies. There is nothing else like them anywhere.

Great shots - what fun; reminds me of Saturday matinees in the '50s.
