Huygens Reflection^2
Lens: SMC Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Loch Craignish / Scotland ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F5.6

The reflection of the sun visualizes the waves produced by the boats and thus in turn shows the reflection and diffraction of the waves at the rocky shore line; nicely demonstrating the Huygens Principle of wave propagation.

Shot through an airplane window on the scenic flight from Barra Airport to Glasgow. There was brightly lit haze in the air and the window added another veil. I spent a lot of time iteratively adjusting curves in Rawtherapee in order to create an image which showed what I wanted to capture. The DNG has virtually no contrast and every bit of adjustment introduced a new color cast or tones out of the printable gamut via those steep curves. Worth it though: Printed on FUJIFILM Crystal Archive Digital Pearl paper, the reflections beautifully sparkle and remind me of the glaring reflections.

Great shot, and a very elegant angle you brought to it.

As they say in the movies, "you had me at Hyugens reflections".
