Snow in Algonquin
Camera: K-3 Photo Location: My back yard
Posted By: normhead, 12-17-2015, 07:54 PM

It a strange winter....

On November 22 we had snow, it lasted 2 days and melted, we've had nothing since, none predicted until after Christmas, even then it's going to melt right away. last year we were in a deep freeze, this year almost tanning weather. I have to dig out old pictures just to show what we got. This it, all of it, there's no more.

I have no more winter scenes and the lawn is still partially green.

The woods are just muddy and totally lacking in colour.
I guess if i want that nice clean winter scenery, I'm going to have to move further north.

Just like yesterday. They say when you are young time goes really slow, but when you are older it goes by really quickly. I Must be getting real friggin old.

I was sitting in the blind with the A-400 and there was all in bird activity so I just focused on the dog, a couple 40 yards away. What caused that bokeh, Ihave no idea. Some kind of thermal effect? Some weird kind of sensor distortion? At this point, any guesses will be entertained. I hadn't just gone over the area with rake, so it's not anything that was there. it's some kind of effect.

The first shot is lovely Norm. Beautiful sky. Your birds and dogs are always great to see too. Now if I can just get my mind around the fact that you raked the grass!

In other words, you have no more idea what that is than I do.

That first shot is very cool, Norm. Down here, we went from summer to spring; next week's forecast suggests we'll be wearing shorts and T-shirts on Christmas.

I ain't gotta clue about those "striations" in the bokeh - which are not uniformly parallel throughout the background. I believe you've discovered an new form of bokeh, which you could call SBP - or Stochastic Bokeh Phenomenon.

How do you pronounce that?

We got just a touch of snow today... just enough to make the background a little more interesting.

Branches, fence, or rope in the close foreground? Similar things happen shooting through chain link fences unless I press the lens against the fence to completely blur out the links.

Which reminds me, I have friends, Mary and Bernard who live up the hydro-cut that goes west from Seton Portage, but they are way up the mountain, I bet they have snow.

I'd have to go out and check the site lines to see.

They might be out of focus Red Pine needles, good guess.

Only in November.... once January starts we actually get to be a little proud of it

Talking to uncle Ron.. who lives on the other side of the Algonquin dome.....

"We got 10 inches of snow last night...
" We got 15
"Well last week we got almost 18
"ya well.....
