A frozen moment
Posted By: Nuutti, 06-29-2008, 04:30 AM

Far from perfect techically (a part of nose is over exposured and the focus area is not perfect) but this shot has a kind of frozen moment. The dog stares that horsefly to just about trying to snatch it...

DA 16-45 at 16 mm and f/4. I.e. just a few inches from the dogs nose.

Wow great capture. You can tell the pooch was very interested in the flying critter.

Good eye Nuutti, a frozen moment indeed.

A tight PP crop brings out *the* moment, conveniently eliminate some of the over exposure area, and deemphasize the focus issue. What do you think?

Additional PP included:
1) lighten the bee (sorry, I over did it) and darken the tree line
2) slightly saturate the dog fur.

Indeed song_hm, you made the picture better while the horsefly is now much more visible without any sign of PP. I've not used to do any PP (except cropping and exposure tuning).

I prefer the non cropped version. While cropping can exclude unwarranted information, distractions, and present a simple clean image to the viewer, it can at times be limiting and feels a bit boxed in. The original shot brings more of the dog’s character to the table.

Your dog must be related to my dog except my dog is always trying to catch wasps.
