Nara, Japan
Lens: DA15mm Ltd Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Nara, Japan
Posted By: hcc, 12-19-2015, 05:14 PM

Two photographs of Nara Park, Nara, Japan. One is the Todaiji temple, founded during 8th century and present building rebuilt in 1709, the largest wooden structure in the world in its time (H = 48.7 m, W=50.5 m, L = 57 m). The second is an alley of stone lantern at the Kasuga Taisha Shrine, established in 768 AD and rebuilt several times; it is famous for its 2,000 stone lanterns.

The two shots were taken with DA15mm Ltd. The DA15mm Ltd was great, although I could have used my FA31mm Ltd (that I did not take with me) in few instances IMHO. Later during the day, the weather became overcast the DA15mm Ltd did not perform as well. I preferred to use my VL58mm for overcast situations.

Both photographs have minimum PP in DCU 5.4.1 with slight cropping.

Comments and advice always welcome.

Beautiful pics!

But some correction to the info sheet: given the diameters of 48,7 x 50,5 x 57 meters, its volume would be 140 182 m3.

For example, Joensuu Areena, fully made of wood, is almost double the size with its volume being 262 550m3. However, theres nobody going to take such a good picture of that structure...

Nowadays probably even largers structures exist.

Amazing that a wood structure could look so good after all that time. Thanks for sharing some of Japan with us.
