Laurel Run is a county park in rural Hawkins County TN. Fine little park, with a great trail connecting to adjoining Bays Mountain park. Enjoyed hiking in the rain from Laurel Run into Bays Mt and back (a 7 mile loop) recently. Just for fun, stuck to just one lens - a Vivitar 24-70.
Recent rains helped fill the small falls along Laurel Run, appropriately named Laurel Run Falls. The cheap old lens did a nice job here…
It's easy to get close to Laurel Run Falls - it's right next to the trail, and less than a mile from the trailhead. Kiner Creek Falls is a bit less accessible - further up the trail, and it takes some off-trail scrambling to get a clear view.
Here's the view from behind the falls...
Did not even notice how much water was on the filter until I saw the results on this photo…
The trail goes on up to drier ridges - where the leafless oaks were full of galls. These "oak apples" are home to larval Cynipid wasps.
And these woods are also home to a wide diversity of tree species - including plenty of beeches…
Rain got heavier, camera went back into the pack for the long downhill return trip. Hope you enjoyed the images of the hike as much as I enjoyed hiking here...
