As always Norm, jealous making bird shots. The jay is certainly keeping his eye on you.

I put out black oil sunflower seeds, cracked corn, there's still some oats in the mix , feed peanuts, bread crusts, chopped nuts and raisins for the smaller birds, and peanuts in the shell, there's a lot of picking and choosing going on out there. You can just see their little birds brains trying to decide, "What do I want next?"

They really like to have a bit of space on the feeder, which is a 12 foot long plank with poles attached, where they can hop around and pick and choose. To a Jay, Chickadee, Nuthatch or Woodpecker "choice is good". To a finch, "Just give us the sunflower seeds dude, why you messing up the feeder with the rest of this stuff."

Nice! Otis picked the winning shot.....it was the squirrel by a landslide.

He makes it clear, this is for the squirrel shot only!

I hope you guys are saving these....at some point in 2016 they will have a cash/gift value from Otis. It is up to you guys to save them for presentation when he calls for them...I'm not his bookkeeper.

Regards!

Ya, I always put the squirrel at the bottom, so Otis will read the whole thread, and not stop after the squirrel.

This is pretty much chickadee heaven up here. They come to our feeder, but they don't have to. We see them up in the woods getting berries and pine and cedar buds and cones. They have a route, they stop in and see us, then they go elsewhere and turn up an hour or so later.

Beautiful shots. What is the first bird? I've never seen markings like that. And I truly believe that squirrel knew he was being photographed and purposely struck the perfect squirrel pose.

The first one is a hairy Woodpecker, the larger of the two in the area with those markings.
I discuss the difference between them ad nauseous, in this thread. If you feel like being ad nauseated.
