Great exposure and technique. Where did you spot meter for exposure values if you don't mind? Cloud or lake highlights?

Metered both cloud and loch, then averaged the pair of them out.

Thanks, you make it sound easy but I don't believe you. It must come with the knowing aye.

I'm talking about the highlight areas of the cloud and loch, which were only about half a stop different in this instance. This made the rest of the scene about four stops under, so I boosted up the just the shadows about two stops in post, when it got Cyanotyped as I took this image on my colour Pentax K20D.

I must admit I do a fair bit of this moody type of landscapes, so I can see the finished image in my mind when I'm looking at the scene, which does help when setting the exposures.

The rest is down to natures good light, however fleeting that maybe, in this instance I had to wait on both the rays and boat being in the right place and both together at the same time.

Thank you for the explanation on your process. The highlights are very well controlled, which is what is always a bit of struggle in my landscapes. Cheers

Your most welcome, that's for me what this forums all about, share a little a knowledge when you have it to share, as it may help others.

I know I've been delighted in the past to pick up wee tips and ideas here myself.

I use the Adobe CC products of Lightroom and Photoshop, both of which have whites and highlight sliders that can be adjusted independently or together if I've got things out of shape with "loud" highlights.

Thanks, but of course, you can just about make out Urquhart Castle on the right in the gloom.

It's the Loch I see when I look out of my house, so I can rush down to it quick if the light has potential.

I like to call these sort of natural phenomenons by the correct names when I get the opportunity and I can find them out that is.

That doesn't sound like very much for such a good word...
