Lens: 40XS, DA 18-135, F70-210 Camera: K-01, K-3, K-5 Photo Location: Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada

I started out with these guys, waiting for the Pine Martens to turn up. They stood us up....

On the way out I noticed the sky looked promising in terms of a sunset. It had all the right kind of clouds. I had the DA*60-250 with the 1.4 TC ready for the Pine Martins but both these were taken with the 40XS on the K-01.

Then I took a trip down Opeongo Road, to drop off some bird seed.

There were a few happy recipients. I had the F 70-210 on the K-5 on the front seat, so still no DA*60-250.

The sky looks even more promising...

Driving towards home, I had to pull off the side of the road for this one, at Brewer Lake. I picked up the K-01 and 40XS from the seat and dnapped a picture, then took it with the DA 18-135 at 18mm and the K-3, but preferred the K-01 and 40XS version.

Sun Pillars

The Brewer Lake ice is already forming on the rock face beside the highway. Finally I put the 18-135 on the K-3 for the last 2.

Out of the park on the way home, the sunset is slowly fading away.

I hate swapping lenses. I like the DA*60-250 on the K-3. Lots of sensor res to take advantage of it's sharpness.

I like the F 70-210 on the K-5. Better for subjects close to the camera than the 60-250, and the K-5s larger pixles reduce the purple fringing that may or may not happen.

The 18-135 was used as my wide angle, so technically a telephoto at 135, but not on this trip. It was use at 18mm on this trip.

When it's cold, taking your gloves off for lens changes is debilitating. Better to take lots of camera.

Oh wait, you're talking about the 1st picture, A nikon 600 ƒ4, a Canon 600 ƒ4 a Canon 500 (Mike's from yesterday), all huge lenses, one of the ladies had what looked like a 100-400 Canon.

Looks like a 100-400 to me, maybe...

You need a 560 to look in place

The front glass of the 560 is tiny compared to those 600 ƒ4s.

I don't even know what to call that one, a "sun column"? I'm not sure I've seen one before, or understand what caused it.

That is just way to cool. I knew I haven't seen one before at 67 years old, but Ihad no idea they were a "thing."

PS, I went back today and had better luck.

I tried to figure out the forum system, I guess I'm a dummy, so now I went to Picasso, it seems better. Not as good as photbucket, but, Photobucket has completely stopped working for me, which is apparently my fault. Right now Picasso works so, I'll just go with them, and stop paying Photobucket. I have no time for these people.

It's a very nice set up.

The rest of the Pine Martens images from yesterday, or at least the ones that I kept.

Marten, not martin. It helps avoid confusion with birds such as Purple Martin, House Martin, and Sand Martin.

As an aside, some mammalogists consider the American marten to be a distinct species (Martes americana) from the pine marten (Martes martes) (Europe and Asia).
