The Petrified Forest and Painted Desert are one national park. It is a small park that contains remnants of old Rt. 66. Beautiful place to explore.

First off, this is one super cool place! I've never heard of it and I want to know the general story behind it. Very cool. Thanks for the photos!

Thanks for commenting. It is a unique place. Between the petrified wood and the pale lavenders of the painted desert, the colors are amazing.

Sensational country and so well depicted. We have a fair bit of fossilised wood in Australia and a couple of places that are called "Pertified Forest" but I have never seen anything quite like this. Thanks for posting.

Very nice shots. I've always wanted to make it down there and visit that.
