A few images of my dearly departed friend, Trumpeter Swan H70. I had been watching and feeding him since 2008. He was a wild swan, but preferred humans to swans. He was bullied by the nine local trumpeters because he was unable to fly after a wing injury several years ago. He often greeted me with trumpet calls and flapping wings. He would sometimes sit quietly a couple of feet from me for as long as I could stay. He was struck by a vehicle and killed last spring while crossing a road. It was as sad an event for me as losing a cherished family pet.
So regal.
Two winters ago he disappeared. It took me until mid February to find him. I had to snowshoe in to bring him seed and corn. This is the photo of him coming to me for the first time after locating him, a happy day.
