Ive seen a few waterfall pics on here recently so thought I would post some that I took today. The biggish waterfall (1st pic) is called Aira Force which is the biggest in the Lake District where I live. The others are from the same stream. Ive never benn there before and was really in awe of the place, another reminder of how lucky I am to be in such a beautiful place.

I cant seem to get past the blown highlights again though. I used a polarising filter which doesnt help the highlights but is good when shooting water, I am seriously considering getting proper ND grad sets to see if they help, more money!!

Thankyou both There is some wonderful scenery here, I need to get into it more though! Shortly after these shots the heavens opened and we had thunder and lightening so we have all seasons in 1 day here to!

Those are great, how long of an exposure did you use to get the water like that?

I think the first one is the best but they are all really good

Thankyou, I think (but could be wrong) it was about a 2 sec shutter speed at something like f22 (although I did go up to 8secs at 1 point). Somewhere around those figures I will look at the exif data and post later the exact numbers

Good Idea on the ND filters.. I have some friends who take nature shots like this and they use the ND filters to knock the light down so they can use the long exposure times.

Are the highlights really blown? They don't look that way to me. Love 2, 3 and 5. If you go for ND filters I don't think you want grads for this sort of work, but rather solids.

yes, I think thats what i meant to say! I dont know alot about them, what i meant is a solid filter as appose to a graduated one, just something that will help to bring down the highlights.

I was reading in another thread here that a way to get the silky water effect would be to do multiple exposures. You'd of course need a tripod and set the exposure so things didn't get too blown out.

These are beautiful shots Tom. It shows that you take a lot of care and planning before you squeeze the shutter button. This is something I really want to try, too. The result is worth the effort.

Thanks Jeff I got very wet feet taking some of these shots and the rocks were like walking on ice! I was using the tripod to keep my balance most of the time but had really good fun scrambling around the river to get different angles. I spent about 7 hours there until the rain came.
