then the shots are truly exceptional because it is usually impossible to get the degree of exposure separation you have without flash.
With respect to disturbance , I disagree. I have shot wildlife with flash for years, and for birds especially, I have never seen one fly away due to flash, I have seen them fly frequently due to noise, or encroachment of location but never flash.
After all, bright flashes are someth that occurs all too often in nature, either due to lightning or branches causing rapid movement of shadows.
