Especially like the last one. I can't imagine what it would be like to have these in the backyard.

Excellent shots. TFS

And I agree with Susan, would be nice to find these in my backyard.

One question though. Why such high ISO on some of them?

thanks for the comments grog85361, in fact 4 different birds on different days (except 2&3 on same day)

it's nice to be able to watch them get up to their antics, but after a couple of weeks it becomes common place, careful what you wish for! I feel I can rule a line through "take a half decent photo of a Rainbow Lorikeet" in my photographic wish list. So maybe too much of a good thing.

thank you for your comments photolady95, different days & times, different light, I normally shoot in Av mode and start on f8 to get reasonable DOF, ISO400 Then I look to see what kind of shutter speed I get, if its not sufficient then I bump ISO to get at least 1/250s, or faster with a 300m lens, I prefer above 1/500s just in case I can get a BIF. Having said that the first shot is a bit of an exception, 1/15s was an accident, I stopped the lens down to F13 to get some more DOF and failed to notice the shutter drop to 1/15s, I fired off about 5 shots and this was the only sharp one, I was well braced against a fence though.
High ISO performance of the K30, means noise is not to bad, so trading ISO for extra shutter speed when birding is handy, particularly with a slow lens like DA55-300 f-5.8 @300m were you haven't got a lot of aperture to open to get more shutter speed.

Thanks for the explanations. I was just curious. I have a K-30 but have problems, i.e., high noise when using any ISO above 800.

Careful what you wish for, we have them in our backyard. They are noisy screechy buggers when there are a few of them together, and there are always a few of them together.

I find high ISO noise not a problem in bright conditions, which is a bit ironic I know, that's when you least need it, but in those conditions you can trade it off for higher shutter speed or smaller aperture (increased DOF) as you may require, one of the big advantages of digital. Shooting a dark scene using high ISO, then the noise can become a problem for sure. Hope the camera is OK.

mine have been quite respectful & well behaved, one pair at a time on the conifer with its favored seed pods, unless a second pair tries to move in then all hell breaks loose

I see. I never saw the need for high iso in bright conditions. I accidentally used it one time and it blew the photo out. DOF I understand, I use small apertures in my macro bug and flower shots, and in my regular flower shots. Guess after I get my K-30 repaired, I should give high ISO in bright conditions again. Thanks for the help.
