A winter walk on the Lookout Trai.

The parking lot...

On the trail

A famous beach leaf.

Preferred attire.

The big picture view

Cold wind at the lookout.

A tighter view..

Flying...

You can always count on chickadee to crash the party.

Thanks bertwert... if you can't get anything else you can get a chickadee.

It was still real cold.

My buddy Arny (in the red hat above) was sleeping out in the uninsulated cabin. He had to keep the fire going all night, and it was still only a little above freezing when he woke up in the morning, the temperature fell to -42 overnight. The coldest here ever, the last being -41 recorded in 1931, but, he did have an electric heating pad in his sleeping bag. -40ºF and -40ºC are the same.

Tess picked up the ash pail that we leave sitting just outside the front door, with her bare hand and it stuck to her hand. She had to heat the metal handle by the hot stove to get it off.
