South Lakes Animal Park & DA 55-300
Posted By: simonkit, 07-05-2008, 02:36 AM

Just visited South Lakes Wild Animal Park in Dalton-in-Furness & thoroughly enjoyed the visit...

It's quite different from most "zoos" in that some animals roam freely whilst you walk around - thankfully not the the tigers though !!

The Lemurs are a highlight, free-roaming & absolutely hilarious, could have spent the whole day just watching them !!!

The 55-300 impressed me again, it's so sharp mid-range I've had to change my post-processing

A few shots..

Wow! nice shots there, Simon. You're right about the lemurs, the portrait is great. How'd they get the chicken up the tree but?

The keepers have a nice set of big ladders & fortunately manage to get the tigers back in their den before climbing the post with the chicken, I guess otherwise they probably wouldn't need the chicken anyway

The park is a bit like Jurassic Park - surrounded by electric fences to keep in the free-roaming animals, all the main pens are also electrified around the top of the fence.

It's possible to wander amongst Vultures, Emus, Wallabies, Lemurs (dozens of them), penguins & various birdlife - many of the animals are in mixed areas, not the normal separation of most zoos - the owners of the park reckon that this keeps the animals more occupied and gives them a better sense of normality, as zoos go of course
