Well I have to tell you this picture is already a cropped image. The bird was sitting almost 25 to 30 meters away from me. Shot was taken with tc 1.4 so 420mm.

You did well to get within 25-30 meters. I've never been able to get that close to a kingfisher. My crop comment was purely personal preference.

I took pictures of the bird when he was sitting just 3 meters away.
