Hi r0ckstarr,
as far as I know, those people where following the train which stopped in certain areas, even between the stations so they can shoot it or film it. It was operated by proffesional drivers and other personnel, and took hefty amount of money to rent (cca 17 000 EUR). This is how it looked like when I arrived at the station. Dozens of cars with German and Austrian licence plates, and bunch of people with expensive DSLRs and 4K video cameras, encircled the train and snapping pictures like crazy :-) Then the train moved behind the switch and returned back to dump 4 cars because somebody made mistake in calculating the total weight and due to high incline of tracks, poor machine was struggling. Then the start up came and I took the picture attached bellow. Train left my hometown and we got into the car and drove to the next interesting spot.which was the previous photo. Those crazy Germans disappeared for few minutes, only to storm our place about 20 minutes after us. This happening was unnoficial, so the stations were not filled with local people, but we know a guy who works on the railway and takes care of railway museum in my hometown :-) BTW, steam in this engine is not produced by burning coal, it is produced by burning mazut, which has better attributes, like higher heating temperatures, no sparks that can and did set the fields and meadows on fire, and achieving more power in hilly regions.
