These cats were very hard to catch in action. I was lying flat on the driveway pretty close to get a near full frame shot, and the striped cat would *not* sit still! She kept running around, chasing birds, jumping on kittens. I couldn't manage a jump shot, but I did get the claw shot which I like


And yes, the 50-135 performed great. I had a couple of shots slightly underexposed, but that was from having metering in matrix and getting some bright reflection from the driveway I think. These were all in-camera JPEG.

Most shots just touched up with a short run through noise ninja (many were at ISO 800) to smooth out the bokeh noise and simutaneously add a little sharpen to the hair and whiskers.
I also bumped up the "clarity" slider in ACR just slightly.

I think I only had to touch the saturation on a single picture, and contrast remained mostly untouched.

Nice work ... kittens are hard to shoot ... mine are too quick usually ... or they are locked together play-fighting. They are a great subject to shoot though.

I have been trying to get shots of them all curled up together with the border collie the other day ... our black kitten was asleep on the dogs head while the other one was curled up into her belly ... would have been a cute shot.

And i missed the other day when the dog was cleaning the cat and vice versa. Always the way ... I keep missing the best shots

Thanks! I'm not much of a cat person myself - we have one cat that my wife wanted. I tolerate her.

But, it takes a cold cold heart not to at least enjoy other peoples' cats playing

Yeah they're certainly difficult to shoot when they're playing - very fast. I took a lot of them locked together also, play-fighting. I thought they would be okay images but once I looked at them, not very intersting...just claws and ears and fur

If I can get one in mid-air, I'll be happy. We'll see, I may have to go burst mode and a wider angle and just crop in.

Great shots u have^^ But I find them a little too sharp for me, as the fur stands out too much^^; Since u are using noise ninja, try doing this;

1. Duplicate layer for the orginal.
2. Set opacity 38% on top layer.
3. Apply top layer with noise ninja.
4. If u find the sharpness is not enough, set opacity to 68%.
