For some reason the 3rd one, where I really needed it, the shutter speed went down to 1/800s. then it went back up, weird. All the same burst.

And that's why you use manual mode...

But I like it; there's a sense of motion that's contrasts nicely with the more static images.

It's kind of interesting, his head and the immediate feathers around it stayed sharp, his feet must have been moving faster than the rest of him.

It's a gas, gas, gas. Now that's one cool sequence. You certainly have some slick-looking blue jays up your way - the ones down here always look mangey to me.

In Canadian weather, a Jay without a full set of fluffable feathers isn't going to last very long.

More than likely, isn't burst mode grand? You see things that happen too quick for the eye to follow.

There has been an explosion of their population around here. That hasn't been good for the more timid species.

agree with jer, ... it's a gas, a great series and a nice looking bird.

I had a theory about center weighted or spot metering and the bird moving from the center of the frame and increased light from the background causing change in shutter speed but it seems like too much variation

you'd expect exposure to be different .... a glitch in the exif maybe
