Bee on echinacea (2 pics)
Posted By: tcom, 07-09-2008, 11:38 AM

Here are two photos of a bee on an echinacea, taken with K10D and Voigtlander 125.

1/250s f/4.5 at 125.0mm iso320

1/320s f/5.6 at 125.0mm iso320

Which one do you prefer?

They are both very nice. I prefer the one with the yellow in the background. It is a little bit more sparkling to me, than the second one.

I prefer number 2, the greater DOF puts a lot more of the shot in focus. It's a shame about the distracting yellow background between the petals.

Both are good shots. I like 1 as well for the yellow background. Excellent captures.

Number one for me Dominique. Echinacea is so photogenic and the bee is icing on the cake so to speak. Excellent work with the Voigtlander 125. How did you get the light so uniform in these shots?

Thank you for all your comments.

LaRee: it was already late afternoon, so excellent sunlight. I positioned myself to have the sun directly behind me, I had to be careful not having my own shadow on the flower, and the light got so uniform.

Again, beautifully done. I know how difficult it can be to get the good light and keep your shadow out of the shot at the same time.

Excellent captures Dominique, I think I like the first better too, but you could starve on the difference. Every time I see a good Voightlander capture, I'm stricken with major lens lust all over again.
