Warbirds Over Wanaka 2016
Lens: Sigma 50-500mm Camera: K-30 Photo Location: Wanaka, New Zealand ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F11

Travelled down again for this amazing airshow, this time with couple of friends who hadn't been before. I'd purchased a 1st gen Bigma ~6months ago and never really had the time to put it to use, so this was a trial by fire.

Hope you enjoy

Cheers guys

Oh and a clear night while away allowed me a nice single shot without the light pollution of a city, unfortunately it was cloudy a good deal of the time and the moon was full after about 10pm. 20Sec @ 200mm F3.2 with the o-gps1.

Excellent series of the planes and a beautiful star shot too. I'm really jealous! Thanks for sharing.

Great shots - thanks for sharing! Just a footnote on the Bf-109s used in the movie - they were actually a Spanish variant, modified to look like the German 109s. Even their engines were Rolls-Royce Merlins. Some interesting background on the movie here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Britain_%28film%29#Aircraft

Wish I could have made it to the show - nice work!

Thanks guys

Cheers Paul, thats quite interesting - the commentary likely pointed that out at the time but I was engrossed :P They do look rather different when you compare the two side by side!

The YAK-3 was also a modern recreation with Allison v12. The Martin Jetpack was also brought out, but tbqh it wasn't that intriguing - seemed like a gigantic quadcopter for humans (ducted fan not jet powered) and they ran it remotely without a person onboard. Not quite the thunderball-esque pack I was hoping for, but probably far more useful in reality (I believe they're targeting it towards some specialised search roles).

Nice!

Unfortunately, I was in Wanaka a month too early. All I saw was the National Toy and Motor Museum.
