On examining a fallen tree branch (24"x36")
Posted By: MJSfoto1956, 04-09-2016, 04:14 PM

A rather large tree branch fell on three of our cars in our driveway, causing over $2000 damage to each car ($1000 deductible per car alas). While cutting up the branch for firewood, I thought this detail was worthy of a photo:

and here's the setup:

I'm still "tweaking" the setup but intend on reporting back when it's all set up the way I need it to be.

Hi Michael,

Sorry about the damage. The pic looks really good. Pretty sophisticated rig you got there.

I tweak a lot. Wondering what you still want to tweak. I would want that front right corner light. Don't know what else.

Hah! That's a broken AF360FGZ that I purchased for $25 and "fixed" by adding an external battery port. And the softbox is just a cheap $10 Chinese knockoff (which works well btw). So you have your eye on the absolutely cheapest part of the system! :P

Sorry to hear about the damage. Indeed that setup looks very impressive, like something straight out of a laboratory. The image looks amazing with a lot of detail. Great way of looking on the bright side.

Beautiful picture, which is a small consolation for the damage from the fallen tree. Good luck getting your cars repaired. You will have your picture for a lifetime but hopefully the car damage will become a distant memory. I wonder if the storm that knocked the branch down was the same storm that went through northern Delaware on Friday April 7th. It took down 2 trees in my yard but fortunately they fell away from my property and did not cause any damage.

Sorry for your loss and somewhat amazed that you could turn the incident into inspiration for something beautiful. I'm pretty sure I would still have steam coming out of my ears and vision so blurred that I couldn't see a good image if it bit me.
