A Good Day at the Nature Preserve
Camera: K-x Photo Location: Mineola Nature Preserve
Posted By: TinaS, 04-10-2016, 09:10 AM

We had a nice day at the nature preserve yesterday. I took the Sears 28mm macro and Sigma 70-300. Several little critters came out to have their pictures made.

Love is in the air!

I loved this feisty little guy.

We had an understanding. I keep my distance, and nobody gets hurt. Sounds fair to me. I really like that Sigma 70-300 about now. Also, I'm glad my hubby was watching where we were going. My eyes were watching the water, and this pile of branches was on the side of the trail we were walking.

Here is the rest of the album:

The little prawn looks like it was posting for a shot. Thanks for sharing!

That was a crawdad. He was such a good sport. He put up his little dukes and didn't back down a bit. We took a bunch of pictures of him, and he maintained his pose the whole time. Lol Now the second we looked away, that little joker was gone!

That's a pretty good sized water snake.

He was a big guy. I wish I could have gotten a better shot of him. The blurred edges are actually foliage I was shooting past. I cropped a good bit of it out of the photo. There were only two angles I could use for that shot, and getting closer wasn't an option. I think think the blurred edges are worth it though.

Thank you! Ha. Not one drop of snow this year, but we certainly had more rain than we knew what to do with.

I can't make out the snake's pupil, but I think I'm going to go with "moccasin" just as a precautionary measure.

At any rate, a nice set from the piney woods--my mother used to teach at Texas High there in Texarkana, which of course made us practically neighbors.

You're right, the snake here is a western cottonmouth (moccasin). No mistaking this one! But I believe Rockstar was referring to another snake in the Flickr album. Although, I prefer to take precautionary measures with any of them. lol

And thank you! I'm just a couple hours from Texarcana.

Thank you! I think the snakes, crawfish, and frog were the most fun. That's probably because I haven't taken pictures of many of them.

The picture posted above is most definately a moccasin. The link in my post, from Tina's album, is a water snake. Here's the link again:

Ha, of course either species will wake you up in a hurry if they drop into your jon-boat while you're running a trotline...a bracing start to the morning!

It would possibly be the end of my morning. I'd probably pee my pants, have a heart attack and fall over board - not necessarily in that order.
