Waterfalls
Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Jocassee Gorge
Posted By: slowpez, 04-12-2016, 04:57 PM

We finally made it up to the mountains in northwest South Carolina. Jocassee Gorge is one of the few untamed, wild spaces left east of the Mississippi. It is just stunningly beautiful. There are so many waterfalls to see that it we have been at it for quite a few years and quit trying to see them all. The lake is also called Jocassee and is jointly owned by the states of Georgia, South Carolina and Duke Power Company. It's waters are pristine and the land surrounding it had been protected beautifully by Duke until it relinquished ownership of some of the acreage to both Georgia and South Carolina. It is our pride and joy and anyone who comes this way, owes it to themselves to come and see it.

Here are a few of the waterfalls we encountered last week. In order: Station Cove Falls, Brasstown Falls, Chau Ram or Ramsey Falls, Twin Falls (my favorite) and Jones Gap Falls.

Very cool--the "Blue Wall" is a pretty impressive place! (BTW, if you've not already been, Panthertown Valley over in NC is a special place as well.)

Thanks for the tip on Panthertown Valley. Haven't been there but will certainly check it out. Nat Geo put the gorge on its 50 of the worlds last great places. Needless to say, they are really stoked about the designation.

Stunning photos, Susan! It's a real pleasure to spend time out in nature and taking time to shoot a beautiful place like this!

You are so right about that Tom. Weather is fickle this time of year so you never know what your light will be like but spring is springing and I love being able to get out and about.
