This twenty-five foot fire tower was built in 1876 after a huge fire destroyed the downtown area of Helena, Mt. It is now a city landmark. it is one of only five of its kind left standing in the United States.

Thanks! It was raining this morning when I took this, I was disappointed thinking a sunny day would have been better. But I really like this overcast view.

It has to be built like a tank to survive since 1876!

Nice shot! Helena has some really nice bits of history preserved. A lovely little city, wish I could have visited more often...

Thanks! Glad you've had a chance to visit there. Indeed there is a lot of history in Helena; and it's great that they have done such a great job of preserving the history.

Excellent photograph of a disappearing subject Carol. It is great that people like yourself are recording local histories. When they are all gone, at least we will have an image of what was. Well taken.

Thank you for your kind words! There is interesting history no matter where someone lives, & it's fun and rewarding to photograph this history.

Susan, you're most welcome! There's a lot of history in Helena. The town was founded shortly after 4 men, known as the "Four Georgians" discovered gold, where main street is today. There is also a couple of original cabins from that era that are amazingly preserved, that I'll take photos of & post here.

What an architecturally and historically interesting and beautiful structure, Carol. It's a shame that so few of these towers are left. Thanks for the "tour" of Helena's past.

You're most welcome, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. It is indeed such a shame that there are so very few of these remaining.
