Moonbows - Yosemite Falls

"A moonbow (also known as a lunar rainbow or white rainbow), is a rainbow produced by light reflected off the surface of the moon (as opposed to direct sunlight) refracting off of moisture-laden clouds in the atmosphere (in this case, mist from the waterfall). Moonbows are relatively faint, due to the smaller amount of light reflected from the surface of the moon. They are always in the opposite part of the sky from the moon. Because the light is usually too faint to excite the cone color receptors in human eyes, it is difficult for the human eye to discern colors in a moonbow. As a result, they often appear to be white. However, the colors in a moonbow do appear in long exposure photographs." - Wikipedia

This is incredible. Not only beautiful, but also educational. That's the first time I hear about moonbow.

Moon bow in Yosemite is on my "must see" bucket list, but I didn't know it looks white to the eye.
Great shots Thank you for sharing.

Great series and very pleasant reminder of what the K3 is capable of in the right hands, especially on the new age of pentax FF K1.

There you go.. that's something I'd never heard of until I read this post, who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Must be quite cahllenging to photograph such events, so well done also with the imagery shown here.
