As much as I value all the odd-numbered rounded aperture blades on my newer lenses, hexagons are cool sometimes

Nicely captured. The bokeh gives it an additional touch. Sometimes those hexagons just work.

Thanks! I like the smooth rendering that this lens has in "macro" mode. It's tricky to get it finely focused, though.

It sems to me that the point of a photograph is to do your very best to show the subject in the best possible light. For me the first two photographs do this magnificently, very detailed very well lit.
Leave the peripherals to the japanese.

Not sure if there is really any one point to photography or not. I suppose you are correct in that "bokeh" comes from a Japanese word. It's a matter of preferences, and a lot of us are bokeh freaks- even some with no Japanese ancestry whatsoever.
I do agree (?) that third one needs to be brighter...
