Cruisin' to the Intersection of 69 and 70
Posted By: Sailor, 05-11-2016, 07:06 PM

Around the end of February, I was struck by the realization that during 2016 I will become a 70-year-old man. Among the profound implications of this dreary insight was my observation that it may be time to transition from my 2013 Porsche Boxster S to a 911 while I (I mean: while wife Connie and I ) will be able to enjoy it; Connie, who has never been particularly fond of the Boxster S, patted me on the head and said something like the equivalent of "yes dear" ( ), and the subject faded away.

While plowing through my email on the first Monday of April, I spotted a routine communication from the Porsche store in Houston that touted "April Specials." Thinking about my impending rendezvous with 70, I opened it and found myself looking at pictures of a brand-new, unsold 2015 Carrera Cabriolet ("my" car in "my" color, Agate grey) offered at a price that grabbed my attention - an untitled new car at a used car price. To make a short story shorter, we test drove on Thursday; I did due diligence research on Friday; and sealed a trade-in deal and brought the 911 home late afternoon on Saturday, April 9.

Here are some shots taken shortly after we pulled into our driveway.

To quote slowpez, been there, done that. However, I didn't get a truck or a Porsche 911. Major bummer! Hope your new "toy" brings you a lot of fun. Love that color.

I was 69 just a few days ago.
Does this mean a precedent has been set and next year I have to upgrade my 2007 Toyota?
It won't be a 911 - I'm a driver from necessity, not for fun - and I would not get out of it!
I might discus the possibilities with the deputy treasurer.

I definitely does, Rod. It's time to start thinking about color!

Steve, I really appreciate the comments. And I will, indeed, keep the pedal to the metal when diving into a corner!

Sure do, Jer. It's a little bit quicker than it used to be
