Flicker at our Oriole Feeder
Lens: 55 - 300 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Our backyard

Haven't seen any Orioles for a few days, but this Flicker seems to like the oranges

Nice image - sharp, and the subject is well isolated from the background by shallow depth of field. However, the species is Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) (male).

Thanks for the correction on the bird - I like to take bird photos even when I'm not sure what they are.

Interesting, I will have to keep an eye open. We have plenty of both orioles (lots this spring) and a healthy population of Red-bellies. Flickers are a bit less common, but stable here. I try to get people not to treat for grubs, to help the flickers and other critters who eat grubs and ants.

nice shot! really like the actions shots when they got something in their mouth!
