May Birds

It's been a great month for birds here in Northeast Tennessee, and a fine month to enjoy watching them. Here are a few samples

A young man at our Church laid out a Bluebird Box trail on the church grounds for an Eagle project. And it looks like his boxes are successful. Here are several shots of Bluebird mom & dad - looks like she's doing most of the feeding work, while he supervises!

One of the bluebird boxes attracted a pair of Tree Swallows. Once again, it's mom on the nest, and dad keeping things safe from the outside.

This Carolina Chickadee found a unique snack for his/her young. Chickadees eat plenty of tiny pest insects, but this is the first time I've seen one carrying a spider back to the nest!

Speaking of nests, here's a shot of a Junco up on Viking Mt in Greene County, in the midst of nest construction. Can you tell what kind of "building materials" the Junco is carrying?

Mr. & Mrs. Canada Goose sure are keeping a close eye on their quick-growing young'uns!

We have several pairs of Orioles nesting at the home park. Have not been able to spot them at the nest, but here's a few shots of Mr. & Mrs. Oriole keeping an eye on passing hikers from a nearby tree.

This Chipping Sparrow was "singing up a storm" over at Hampton Creek Cove State Natural Area - and just in time for all the apple blossoms.

We had a rather unusual (for us) group of visitors last weekend here at the home park. A passing flock of Common Terns - heading for their much more northern breeding grounds - stopped for a quick snack.

And this little fellow was checking out nesting sites over at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Yellow-Throated Warblers are frequent summer visitors there on the Cumberland Plateau.

Hope you enjoyed the flocks of feathered friends, and that you'll share your comments & critique!

Correct! Probably Polytrichum ("hairy cap moss")

Awesome shots!

Just out of curiosity, were you using K-1's cropped mode?
