Travel Piel Island (non-Pentax photos)

I just got back from a long weekend trip to Piel Island off the coast of Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, North-West England. For a change, I left my Pentax cameras behind and took my Sony A99-based Hasselblad HV instead. The weather was fantastic, though almost-entirely-clear skies weren't great for photography - plus, I couldn't haul my backside out of bed early enough, nor stay out of the island's Inn late enough to make the best of the light!

, so what started off as a photography trip became a relaxing break with a few hurried moments of travel snapshots for good measure

That said, here are a handful of those snapshots...

The beach shot is my personal favourite too...

Yes, that's the ferry I took to the island

That said, it's only a half mile (~ 800m) journey, and the ferry is actually very stable in the water. Even so, I insured my photography equipment in advance of my trip - just in case!

Piel Castle dates back to the early 14th century and was a particularly well-built piece of architecture. What remains of it is much more impressive when you see it first hand, of course...
