Waiting on Summer
Lens: Sigma 100-300 f4 Camera: K1 Photo Location: Ketchikan AK ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F10

I had just finished shooting a nearby waterfall, when I walked a little further down a paved road to see this scene. My first thought was how lonely the empty dock spaces looked and how the gray day added a sense of desperate anticipation of better days ahead. I shot about 5 shots with my waterfall lens, and quickly realized the wide angle (24-60) wasn't bringing into play the mist covered islands as much as I would like. I grabbed my 100-300 and about that time the little boat in the distance then showed up. It just seemed to be the finishing touch.

I'm still experimenting with the use and processing of black and white, so I was actually surprised at myself when my first thought was, "This would be cool in B&W." Your impressions?

The distant mist adds softness with the contrast of the bare dock.

Good choice to the compress the view with the tele. I'd like to go sit on the end of that dock for awhile.

"Sitting on the dock of the bay" comes to mind.

A great view and fantastic scene. Without the boat in the background, the impression of lonelyness would be much greater. Imho, this would make the picture "readable" in more ways. Could been a scene in the winter. Or before a boating trip. Could be an abandoned place. Well done b/w!

The wobbly reflections give it life, and the boat approaching from the distance does the same. Nice shot.

I do like the contrast between soft and sharp with this one!

I really like the overall composition of the photo. The only thing that bugs me is the brush in the bottom left corner.
