Model Jets
Lens: DFA* 70-200 f/2.8 Camera: K1 Photo Location: California
Posted By: LaurenOE, 06-11-2016, 05:21 PM

I was out and about today, and I stumbled on a model airplane field.
Grabbed the K1 and DFA*-70-200 f/2.8, put it in crop mode and fired away.
These are jets...and the are probably one of the hardest things to track while moving in the sky (although not as hard as dragonflies).

K1 and DFA* 70-200mm f/2.8 definitely can keep up with the action!
These are pretty large crops too!

They look so real. So the K-1 is good for shooting planes too.

Yep. These are jets...they are going really, really fast, definitely over 100mph...and the tracking of the K1 along with the DFA* 70-200 keeps up.

Yep, The K1 is in crop mode, with another crop to center the planes in the image(s).

So with a single camera and lens combination, you get an amazing tool.

Fantastic combination.

Never seen a T-38 Thunderbird RC. Really nice. Even when cropped.

That guy knew hot to fly it too!!
He saw me roll up with my camera, and I swear, he made a few low passes just for me.

The K1 is my favorite dSLR from Pentax.
It beats them all.

It's a beast of a camera with the DFA* 70-200 /f2.8 - but I am willing to suffer that weight for the performance it gives.

Once again, Pentax optical engineers put together something that goes way beyond the sum of it's specifications.

To be honest, I now see what the K3 III will be, and I am excited to see that become a reality too.

A mighty nice lens, almost every single pic that I've seen posted was a stunner, and yours definitely don't fall short of the mark.

Yeah I guess it must be quite a pain to track model airplanes... they fly much closer than real jets so angular velocity has the potential to be much greater...
