In the Unlikely Event....
Lens: Bigma 50-500 HSM OS Camera: K1 Photo Location: Woods of Otis -Texas
Posted By: Rupert, 07-02-2016, 01:19 PM

That someone here is craving some squirrel shots....I do have a few from the K1.

A little blind orphan squirrel that was fully healed by modern medicine....and is obviously now thriving!

She seems pretty happy, now that she can see to find plenty of corn!

Otis??? Well, he is doing fine and doing what he likes to do best...not much of anything!

Regards & Happy 4th from Otis Squirrel to all here in this great thread!

Do you notice any difference or improvement with the K1, when shooting Otis, his mates and family?

Most definitely! The biggest two factors is the superb AF on the K1...like no other Pentax before it. second...the great improvement in high ISO shooting. Followed by the much improved SR, which is superb.

The list is long, but it is a much different camera than any Pentax I have ever owned before. I have struggled with Bigma shooting for over 10 years....thousands of lost shots due to being unable to lock focus in bushy scenes, low light or just unable to get a focus fast enough to get a shot. None of this happens with the K1...it is fast and accurate all the time. Amazing to me!

I also love the Crop Mode......the area of crop is outlined in heavy black and when you half click for AF it turns red and beeps....instantly...you snap, and you have your shot, framed just as you saw it.
So much to love about this camera...so much!

It shoots birds too...lots of birds!

Regards!

I concur with you on these two points, but as a FF manual focus man... I've no idea about all that other malarky.

But I'll take your word for it.

Perhaps one day I'll autofocus with Pentax.

K1 and Bigma work well together I see, that is my biggest complaint with K3-Bigma combo, slow and missed focus but when it does lock focus it's magic. I am glad that the little one is doing well and as for Otis, just as I expected, laying around and not doing much of anything. Very nice series Rupert, thanks for posting them.

Say hi to Otis for me. I have missed him as he seems to have been a bit scarce lately. Happy 4th to you to Rupert.

Thanks Jer! I am truly loving the K1...Otis even gave it his approval!

Otis wanted to show his bravery......he thought he heard a bear and went to check it out. He assured me he could handle a bear....

Best Regards!

Love the last two in the first post (and the last one above). I think the second to last one wins the award for best pose!

If I had a set like that I'd probably think I could handle a bear too.
